I would like to say a huge Thank-You to Emma Lodge and her hard working committee for the fantastic donation from the Pink Ribbon High Tea for The Encore Programme of Cairns.
I am delighted to say this fantastic free 8 week exercise programme for woman diagnosed and treated for breast cancer became available in Cairns last year. We have run two very successful programmes with our first for 2012 soon to begin with a very long waiting list!!!
The fantastic news with this funding we have assisted 2 more Facilitators to be trained for Mareeba and Innisfail. Also it will assist the programmes to continue in Cairns. My dream that every lady in the Cairns and surrounding areas diagnosed with Breast Cancer has the opportunity to attend a programme.
Again a huge Thank-You

Meet the authors of ’7 Things Your Doctor Forgot to Tell You’ Dr Warren Sipser & Andi Lew.
Dr Warren Sipser is best known for his expertise in chiropractic health, and his passion for preventative health measures. From his practice in Elwood, Victoria, Dr Sipser cares for thousands of Australians. He is also the Secretary of the Chiropractors Association of Australia (Vic) and a Member of the Australian College of Chiropractors. An advocate of continual personal development and learning Dr Sipser recentlly completed his studies of a Masters in Paediatric Chiropractic, an achievement that will made him one of a handful in the world with this level of peadiatric experience.
His well placed enthusiasm for prevention through chiropractic and internal health stems from a young age when he lost his sister to cancer. Having gained this tremendous insight he has applied himself to create dramatic changes in the lives of others on a daily basis, through promoting the message of nurturing the core of your body, the spine, through chiropractic, diet and exercise. And optimizing your body’s functions to regulate and heal.
The acknowledgement and encouragement of his many patients and peers inspired Dr Warren Sipser to continue sharing his health messages and he and his wife, Andi Lew, authored the book “7 Things Your Doctor Forgot To Tell You”.
Recently his experience and passion for prevention has created awareness in many channels including sporting clubs and schools, having been invited to talk to the students and athletes on looking after their spine and health. Furthermore, Dr Sipser’s expertise has been engaged in the media with several media interviews including, Channel 9’s “A Current Affair”, “Herald Sun” & “GMA, Channel 10.”
Andi Lew will be host to the Pink Ribbon High Tea on Sunday 23rd October at the Shangri La Cairns ~ Tickets $75 available from Vivienne Francine, Baby Yeti, Harvey World Travel Edge Hill and www.ticketscairns.com.au
The Beautiful Bras exhibition is currently lighting up the windows pink at Festival Cairns HQ on Lake Street. With some fantastic ‘unique’ designs such as a handbag, fascinator and pet toys to name a few, it just shows how multi talented bras can be - just like their wearers ha!
Coming up this Tuesday night, 5 Beautiful Bras have been selected to be paraded at The Boutique Collection fashion parade at The Attic from 6:30pm. Here’s a glimpse of the bras that have been selected:-
12B Coral Wilkinson – Treasure Chest
X marks the spot
Undiscovered treasure
Pearls of wisdom
Treasure your chest
The concept is X marks the spot with mammography and marking a suspicious area on the scan. The Undiscovered treasure and pearls of wisdom relates to the support and care given by health care professionals on a woman’s journey through treatment. And Treasure your chest implies that women should take care of themselves and attend breast screening.
12C Janine Bucklar – Vintage Doilies
This bra has been lovingly hand-stitched using materials ranging from vintage doilies and buttons to youthful ric rac and polka dots to represent the coming together of different generations of individuals within a community when affected by breast cancer.
10D Hayley Gillespie -Big Bad Wolf
I was thinking about overcoming the wolf, as well as ever changing size, bravery and what it means to be a woman and the sacrifices made by our bodies for the greater good. We are a vehicle to make life, food and comfort as well as being people in our own right.
12C Claire Wadell – Robinson – Mer bra
Inspired by living in Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef this bra has been created for a mermaid… a mer-bra! A person once told me that cancer only touches strong people. Ever since I heard this I’ve found it to be true. Catherine didn’t win her battle and her sister Rachel, my best friend, is now in remission post a double mastectomy and two reconstructions. Rachel is an inspiration to me and I’m so proud of her, her second child Jake is now three months old and she’s undoubtedly the bravest person I know. This one’s for you Rach, love CB
Had a fantastic interview this morning with Bev and Pieter on Cairns FM 89.1 Community Radio. This radio thing is getting much easier the more I do it and no bloopers today phew! It was such a great opportunity to spend time sharing exactly what will be coming up on the afternoon of the high tea and to also share my reasons behind pursuing this event (now in its fourth year) and how this has lead me onto other projects such as ‘Prevention is the Cure’.
Bev and Pieter were wonderful hosts and are both volunteers for the station. I really love supporting local and think this radio station deserves much more coverage within our community. They are genuinely interested in sharing locals stories and it was fantastic to be offered the time to do it.
And thanks Dani for coming along too, it was great to have the support and wonderful to hear about Greta who we are dedicating this years high tea to. I’m sure she was there with us this morning, still doing her bit for the pink ribbon high tea committee!
And who is the MC this year you might ask? Well we have an extra special person coming up especially from Melbourne for the event. TV presenter and author of ’7 Things Your Doctor Forgot to Tell You’ Andi Lew is going to be our gorgeous MC for the afternoon.
The event is now in its fourth year and I think by now
we have done our fair share of ‘raising awareness’, October is now ‘Pinktober’ and there’s no hiding the multitude of pink events and pink advertising that takes place. So I think now is the time that we should move forward and rather than October being known as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ lets make it ‘Breast Cancer Prevention Month’. This is where all have the opportunity to become informed and take charge of our health, and what a wonderful opportunity we have with Andi Lew as MC of the High Tea coming to Cairns with her husband Dr Warren Sipser. Andi and Warren will be available for a meet & greet and book signing Saturday 22nd October at Healthy Life (see flyer below).
The Pink Ribbon High Tea is nearly here for 2011 and I can’t wait to share with you all that will be coming up!
The Line Up
We have a great line up as the afternoon will start with a glass of sparkling and smooth sounds by Julian on the piano in the pre-function area of the foyer. Collect your beautiful hand-made pink ribbon which is included in the ticket cost and then head over with your friends to our photo booth station and have your picture taken with cupcakes, feather boas and anything else we can find pink as a perfect souvenir to this highly sought after afternoon! The doors to the grand ballroom will then open and the high tea begins, you will be wowed and wooed by the amazing food which includes chocolate fountains, the famous strawberry tower, icecream, truffles, finger sandwiches, cupcakes and more!
Fashion Performance
So the line up of fashions this year includes the wonderful Vivienne Francine sharing with us some items from her brand new collection – never seen before, that she will be taking to Shanghai the following week, so very exclusive for Cairns! We also have the very much adored Love Lucy and her gorgeous vintage collection, you’ll be in for a treat with the boys outfits
And I must say a huge thanks to Lulu’s models, Pulse Hair and Maria Morrison Makeup who will be donating their time to these great performances, and I say ‘performance’ as we always tee up something a little bit different and unusual from a standard catwalk show.
Guest Speaker
We have followed Sharons journey since the inception of the Pink Ribbon High Tea and this chapter of her story will no doubt be a highlight of the event. Sharon Cohrs will share with us some amazing footage of her summit to Mt Everest, what an achievement, and you will feel like climbing mountains after you see this! As Sharon says, “we all have our own personal goals and everests to conquer, and it just shows that anything is possible!”
Balloon Raffle
The balloon raffle is back! Purchase your lucky balloon for $20 and be in the running to win some awesome prizes with the top one being a return flight with Cathy Pacific to Hong Kong! We have simplified the raffle this year so only the numbers drawn will be winners – Good Luck!
Beautiful Bras Auction

Paul is as entertaining as ever with the auctions and I’m sure the bras will create a few laughs – especially the 5 breasted one ha ha!!
