Beautiful Bras Exhibition ~ Now Open!

The Beautiful Bras for Breast Cancer exhibition
successfully launched on Friday night.
After three hard days of preparation and setting up, my vision for an exhibition fundraiser has finally come together. The art space is just beautiful and so ambient.

Not only are there a range of local art works, bras and breast casts; the exhibition is also very interactive and you can be a part of it too…fill out a leaf and attach it to the Tree of Hope with your message or rememberance for a loved one, or on the verandah is a giant canvas where you can draw and name your boobs (yes thats right you did read that correctly) and what a work of art it is turning out to be!

All bras are up for silent auction, which will conclude at the Pink Ribbon High Tea on the 24th Oct. Just fill out a bidding form. All artwork is for sale with either 100% commission towards the fundraiser or 100% donation.

The exhibition has had a great response since it
opened on Friday 1st Oct. It will be running over the next 3 weeks from Wednesday to Sunday, 12:00pm until 8:00pm, 70 Abbott Street (opposit the City Library) so please pop by for a visit.

Sharons Blog

Check out the latest details on Sharon’s Cho Oyu expedition by visiting www.climbingforacause.com.au.

Unfortunately due to an avalanche high up on the mountain, between Camp 3 and the Summit, the mountain has been deemed unsafe.

Here is a little excerpt from her blog:

“Well, we are back in ABC now having completed the expedition.  I am happy with our decision, and although I am disappointed that we were unable to reach the summit this time, I know this is part of mountaineering.  You can never guarantee success, and this is what makes it so satisfying when you actually do. I have felt the fittest in my life, and I have reached a high point and slept at 7200m.  This is the height where many climbers reach during acclimatization on Everest.  In this regard, this has been a successful journey, and I am certainly now on track for our Everest climb next year.”

She may have not summited but she does have some amazing stories to tell and what an achievement to reach 7200m!

Supporting Climbing for a Cause

Sharon Cohrs and her support for Cancer Council Queensland

Sharon Cohrs is a valued supporter and very close friend of Cancer Council Queensland. It is with pride that we offer Sharon our full support in achieving her goal of being the first breast cancer patient to conquer the summit of Mount Everest.

Sharon’s goal requires considerable personal strength as well as moral and financial support, but will be invaluable in its capacity to help her provide hope to cancer patients all over the world. Any assistance you can provide Sharon would be most appreciated and comes with our recommendation that you are contributing to a worthwhile cause in the fight against cancer.

Sharon’s story and her love of mountain-climbing, which she shares with husband Allan, is an inspiration to Cancer Council Queensland, its supporters and to cancer patients and their
families. Approximately two and a half years ago, Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer at only 36 years old and immediately underwent surgery to have her left breast and lymph nodes removed, revealing six tumours. Following this, Sharon’s treatment with chemotherapy began as well as surgery to have her right breast removed and full reconstruction.

Throughout her treatment, no matter how unwell she felt, Sharon never stopped her exercise regime and maintained her dream of returning to her love of climbing mountains. This dream was realised when on 12 May 2009, Sharon and Allan returned to Kathmandu having climbed Mt Baruntse, which stands at 7129m and sits between Makalu and Mt Everest.

Sharon’s determination extends to her tireless support of Cancer Council Queensland, by raising awareness and funds for cancer patients. Sharon was the Face of the Cairns Relay For Life in 2009, through which she acted as an ambassador to promote the work of Cancer Council Queensland in cancer research, support and education. She is also a fundraiser in our CancerFREE Challenge campaign this year.

We are proud to support Sharon in her mission to climb Mt Everest, sending a strong and positive message to all cancer patients. We hope you can support her too.
